It is National Diabetes Week. There are an estimated 1.7 million people in Australia living with diabetes today. There are 3 types of diabetes and understanding the different kinds can help you understand the symptoms and treatment options.
Type 1 Diabetes has 4 main symptoms, known as the 4 'T's:
Type 2 Diabetes is the most common and can often be treated through lifestyle changes. Symptoms of Type 2 are often not obvious (tiredness, thirst, blurred vision) - more than 100,000 Queenslanders have Type 2 diabetes but don't know it!
Gestation Diabetes occurs in pregnancy. Between 5 and 10 percent of pregnant women will develop gestational diabetes. All women are screened for gestational diabetes between weeks 24 to 28 of pregnancy.
Early diagnosis can prevent serious complications. If you think you have symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes, or are at risk of Type 2 Diabetes, see your GP today.
For more information on Type 1 & Type 2 diabetes ask your GP or head to www.diabetesqld.org.au

We’re all are used to thinking about our heart and skin health but our lungs are equally important. It’s time we made our lung health a priority as well because if you can’t breathe, nothing else matters.
